Phase 03
Layering
A layered CGI approach where clean renders become a base for graphic systems, typography, and compositional elements, transforming each frame into a structured, design-led visual layout that prioritises storytelling over traditional CGI realism.

Impact
This phase builds on earlier stripping back, shifting focus toward layering as a way of introducing visual complexity and intent. Clean base renders are used as a foundation, allowing additional elements to be composed on top rather than embedded within the scene itself. Graphic elements, lines, grids, and typographic systems become part of the frame.
The aim is to move away from traditional notions of CGI correctness, and instead construct frames that feel closer to graphic layout systems. Stills and motion pieces begin to resemble pages from a design book, where composition, hierarchy, and spacing carry as much meaning as the subject itself.
Each frame is treated as a structured space for communication. Rather than relying solely on camera movement, meaning is built through layout, layering, and the relationship between elements. Product, environment, and information can coexist within a single composed frame that feels deliberate and designed.
By processing clean renders through additional systems and using their visual data to inform motion graphics, text, and overlays, the work creates a cohesive interaction between layers. The result is imagery that feels intentional, structured, and closer to designed communication than traditional CGI realism.
As Creative Lead, the work was structured through clear timelines, milestones, and a progression framework that turned ambition into actionable direction while aligning the team around shared intent.
A strong team of problem-solvers and exploratory artists worked independently and collectively to anticipate issues and produce cohesive, considered output.
